(Versus dress, Versace pumps)
Well it was definitely a late arrival to Milan fashion week, but today was nonstop nonetheless. Started off with cappuccinos and pain au chocolat at the hotel, then a fitting for the Versus show where I got my pick from the SS11 clashy floral/plaid collection (this is where it starts to become surreal), then off to meet up with Bryan at the Dolce & Gabbana show, then back to the hotel to change into my outfit for the Versus show at 5. And somewhere in there they had managed to take in the dress so that it fit me like a glove. The show was a complete new direction, all black leather and sheaths and mesh and toughness and rubber soled glitter platforms that I documented for future posting at the showroom. Such an honor to get to meet Christopher Kane and Donatella Versace herself backstage, I think I mashed my words together into complete incoherency when I was supposed to be articulating at least a standard greeting to them. Ah well. Thank you to everyone at Versace that I met today!
Wednesday night with Magnus Berger’s Last Magazine at Indochine and Dominion..I had a lot of fun hanging out with my bff Bryanboy, my friends at Kanon, Sonny Vandevelde, Amanda Norgaard, and the beautiful Prabal Gurung…I wore the drapiest sheer dress I own, some very walkable suede boots I got at Topshop in Soho earlier that day, and this necklace I designed with Dannijo that I’ve been wearing nonstop lately. Check out the rest of the photos we took at Kanon’s blog here.
PS since there are a few makeup questions, I’m wearing MAC fluidline eyeliner, Urban Decay Afterglow Cheek Tint in Indecent (obsessed with these, UD gave me a bunch and I love all of them…Fetish and Score are my favorites), La Mer The Powder, Revlon Super Lustrous lipgloss in Nude Lustre, and Bobbi Brown eyeshadow from a random palette I forgot I had.
(Rag & Bone cardigan, vintage slip, Elizabeth and James knuckle ring, Plush socks)
(Rag & Bone hat, vintage silk shirt, Topshop leather shorts)
I’m sure you’ve all heard about Rag & Bone’s spring campaign but just in case you haven’t – David Neville and Marcus Wainwright had the genius idea to enlist Abbey Lee, Sasha Pivovarova, Edita, and Lily Aldridge to shoot the clothes however they wanted and they then posted the results guerrilla style all over New York. I love the fresh angle they took and the results are alive and random and all sorts of other good things (see for yourself here). They sent me a few pieces to style my own way for their online DIY gallery and Colin and I shot them around our place on a lazy warm day last month. The fuzzy Fair Isle cardigan was paired with my favorite almost head-sized mug on the kitchen counter and the hat with an old vintage shirt and a lit up sky. Hope you like.
The Pamela Love presentation at Milk was one of many highlights of fashion week for me, all uneven jagged crytals and pentacles and mixed metals. The best description I can come up with for the feeling of the collection as a whole is talismans fit for an ancient intergalactic war. Going to be dreaming about the gold cuffs, the simple cutout ring, and the earrings until they show up on Bona Drag..
(Whyred sunglasses, fashiontoast x Dannijo Arc necklace, vintage coat, LF dress, Topshop boots, Marco Tagliaferri bag, Pamela Love rings)
Between the Preen show at Milk and the Max Azria show at Lincoln Center. This slate blue suede coat is one of my most amazing thrift store finds ever…the lining doesn’t skimp at all and the previous owner must not have been that into it because it was in pretty much perfect condition when I got it. And yes, I had to commit to wearing it in the plane to get it over here. I’ve been switching it up between my Mulberry and this bag (love that it’s just a slouchy take on the Birkin) for when I need to lug about 15 lbs. of random “essential” items around.
(Luisaviaroma owner Andrea Panconesi presenting the Blogger of the Year award, then me acting like an idiot with Andrew Bevan)
All I have to say is thank you thank you thank you! The Bloglovin Awards were Sunday night at the Stone Rose Lounge uptown – Colin and I headed right over after the Thakoon show and it was amazing to see so many familiar faces gathered in one place. The awards were purely vote-based (from a tally of over 250,000, crazy) so I have my beautiful readers to owe this to – I won for both Best Personal Style and Blogger of the Year! Still pinching myself. Check out Kanon’s blog here for more photos!
(vintage coat, LF tshirt and jacket, Camilla and Marc leather leggings, Jeffrey Campbell boots, gifted Made Her Think bag)
This coat has basically saved my life the past few days here in New York. Thank you to What Comes Around Goes Around for that one..I filmed a little segment at their store a few days ago, just a few steps away from The Soho Grand where I’m staying. Fell in love with it as soon as I saw that it was both immense and hooded…fills a void since my last one half disintegrated when I was in New Zealand during their winter.
Fashion week essentials so far: cashmere lined leather gloves, any and all cold medication, a meticulously updated iPad schedule, broken in boots, Nivea cream, pocket warmers from Japan, car service with my favorite driver in New York Jorge Avila (courtesy of Kanon, thank you!!), lint rollers in said car to de-fur boyfriends and hats, fresh squeezed orange juice and Greek yogurt at the Soho Grand for breakfast, two 5Ds, Wild Ginger delivery, and friends to laugh through it all with.
On the schedule for tomorrow: Karen Walker, Jen Kao, Herve Leger, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Narciso Rodriguez.
One Teaspoon dress..I really really love this label out of Australia. The beading is done so well it actually seems like metal. Warrior princess is a vibe I can never pass up.
Sort of an outfit repeat for me I guess but I’m an extreme rewearer…wearing Zara jacket, LF dress, Jeffrey Campbell Climber boots, Marco Tagliaferri bag.
Face smushing in a vintage sweater I shrank to death and am quite sure I improved by doing so. At Akbar on Sunset.
Leopard coat in the rain
What my wardrobe favored in January..packing some of these for New York to probably wear very differently.
Detail shot of my pony Topshop skirt I got in Tokyo, worn with Equipment silk shirt.
Topshop fringe dress/top, Topshop leather shorts, Fiorentini and Baker suede boots
No idea what kind of plant these were
Best trailer ever?
I took this at a shoot on location. Huge mirror, outsite, standing opposite a massive metal bathtub that looked like a bucket. So awesome.
One of my favorite purchases last year – sheer/asymmetrical/double layered 3.1 Phillip Lim dress worn with Marni studded Maryjanes. This stove heater device (I idiotically refer to it as the Bunsen burner) makes our place so cozy on 40 degree nights.
Youth vs. Future earring vs. the moon
More Kumo love
Alice and Olivia buffalo plaid coat, pending rust poisoning
Looking even more disheveled and confused than usual, in Egoist sweater, Claude Maus dress, Camilla and Marc leather skinnies, Marni heels, and Theory bag.
Cowgazing? Is that an activity?
An empty park on a windy day.
Looking straight up on eerily quaint street in the Valley..warm and still enough to pause everything for a second.
Pendleton shorts of tininess
San Francisco…Coit Tower in the distance. I’ve only actually been all the way up to it once but it’s a good blurry memory.
Slightly witchy Rag and Bone hat with a Stylestalker top, freezing as the sun went down.
Ok that should get me a little more caught up with posting. Now back to packing, the faster I finish the sooner I can go to sleep. Arriving in New York late tonight!
(LF dress and knit, gifted David Yurman Wheaton ring, Marco Tagliaferri bag)
Sunday night at Barnes & Noble with the boyfriend = sloppy knit, smushy bag, and Vogue
I’m working with David Yurman on a project for their beautiful Valentine’s Day collection: here are the details!
Fans of David Yurman can enter the contest by uploading their favorite original romantic picture to the David Yurman Facebook page and then encouraging their friends to vote for their picture — the top 10 with the most votes will be the final contenders from which David Yurman will pick the winner. The winner will receive two pieces of jewelry (for them and their loved one) just in time for Valentine’s Day (and the men’s pieces are sooo goood). Trust me you want to win this one. I mean David Yurman is David Yurman…so get creative with shooting a romantic photo..good luck!
